Planning dental implants with a panoramic X-ray in Sotogrande

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small post, usually made of titanium, that is placed in the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once it has bonded with the bone, a crown, bridge or full denture is fixed on top to restore function and appearance.

Implants avoid having to file down the neighbouring teeth, as a conventional bridge does, and help to preserve the bone in that area. At The Dentists Sotogrande we plan every case from a detailed X-ray study to place the implant in the safest and most stable position.

Who is it for?

  • You are missing one or more teeth
  • You wear a denture that moves or feels uncomfortable
  • You have a bridge that needs replacing
  • You want to eat and smile with confidence again
Step by step

How treatment works

  1. 01

    Assessment and X-ray study

We examine your mouth, your medical history and the amount and quality of the available bone.

  2. 02

    Treatment plan

We explain the options (single implant, bridge or implant-supported denture), the timescale and the cost.

  3. 03

    Placing the implant

This is done under local anaesthetic as an outpatient procedure; most patients carry on as normal the next day.

  4. 04

    Final crown and check-ups

Once the implant has bonded with the bone, we fit the crown and schedule regular check-ups.

Typical duration

Placing an implant takes about an hour. The implant usually needs between 3 and 6 months to bond with the bone before the final crown is fitted; in the meantime you can wear a temporary tooth if needed. If bone grafting is required, the timescale can be longer.

Price

Every case is different. After your assessment we give you a detailed written quote before treatment starts.

Does getting a dental implant hurt?

The implant is placed under local anaesthetic, so you will not feel pain during the procedure. Afterwards it is normal to have some discomfort and swelling for a few days, which is controlled with the medication we recommend.

How long does a dental implant last?

With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, an implant can last for many years and even a lifetime. The crown may need replacing over time because of wear.

Can I have implants if I have bone loss?

In many cases, yes. If there is not enough bone, bone grafting can be considered before or during implant placement. We check this in the X-ray study at your first visit.

How much does a dental implant cost in Sotogrande?

The price depends on the number of implants, the type of restoration and whether bone grafting is needed. After your assessment we give you a detailed written quote before treatment starts.
