In summer Sotogrande fills with visitors, and a dental problem can spoil a holiday. The good news is that most emergencies can be sorted out well if you act promptly. This is what we recommend.

Toothache

You can take the painkiller you normally use, following the leaflet, and apply something cold to the outside of your cheek. Do not put aspirin on the gum or apply heat. Book an appointment as soon as possible: toothache usually signals deep decay or an inflamed nerve, which will not heal on its own.

A broken or chipped tooth

Keep any fragments you find, rinse your mouth with water and avoid chewing on that side. Even if it does not hurt, it should be checked soon to protect the tooth.

A tooth knocked out by a blow

This is the emergency where time matters most. Pick the tooth up by the crown without touching the root; if it is dirty, rinse it briefly in milk or saline without scrubbing. Keep it in milk and call us immediately.

A filling or crown has come out

Keep the crown and bring it with you. Do not try to stick it back with household glue, as it can damage the tooth.

When to go to a medical emergency service

If you have significant facial swelling, a fever or difficulty swallowing or breathing, go to a medical emergency service without delay.

How we can help

We see emergencies during clinic hours, Monday to Thursday from 10:00 to 18:00 and Fridays from 10:00 to 14:00, in English, Spanish, German, Swedish and Portuguese. Call us or send a WhatsApp message and we will give you the first available appointment. If you can, bring a list of any medication you take.
